Bringing a puppy home
To get on the waiting list, fill out our application form. Once approved, a non-refundable deposit of $500 paid with your completed contract reserves a puppy in an upcoming litter. Puppies are typically $3,000 to $3,500 and go home at 8 weeks old.
Our puppies are raised in our Peoria home in the Phoenix West Valley and go home with families from Tucson, Flagstaff, and every corner of Arizona, as well as out of state. If you’re flying in or driving a long way, we’ll help you plan the trip so your puppy gets home safely.
We typically pick one puppy from each litter to become a breeder to continue our lines. If you’d like to raise one of these special puppies as a family pet, check the guardian-home box on the application and read about our Guardian Home program. Guardians must live in the Phoenix metro area.
How we choose your puppy
We match, we don’t sell by looks. Families often tell us they want the biggest puppy, the blockiest head, the smallest, or the darkest. Those things say nothing about who that puppy will be at two years old. By eight weeks we know each puppy’s personality and activity level, and we match that to your household’s activity level, what you want the dog for (family pet, service or therapy work, performance sports), and how much dog experience you have. An active, assertive puppy will never go home with a first-time dog owner, no matter how much everyone loves his head. You tell us about your family on the application; we do the rest. In more than twenty years of placing assistance and companion dogs, this is the part that matters most.
Every litter has a range. Even in our calm-bred lines a few puppies are more outgoing, and a breeding to an outside line will sometimes give us a more active litter. That is exactly why we match each puppy to its family rather than letting families choose by color or by who runs to the fence first. If you do not accept the puppy we have selected for you, your deposit can be transferred to the next litter.

Every puppy goes home with a written contract. These are its main terms; the full contract is provided when your application is approved.

Do you sell “English Cream” golden retrievers?
“English Cream” is a sales term, not a breed or an AKC color. We breed the full range of golden shades, from light cream to dark red, and we select for calm temperament rather than color. Every Westwing puppy is bred to be a potential assistance dog.
Can I pick my puppy?
We match each puppy to its family based on the puppy’s personality and activity level, your household, what you want the dog for, and your experience. If you don’t accept the puppy we select, your deposit transfers to the next litter.
Do you sell puppies out of state?
Yes. Our puppies live across Arizona and in many other states. We’ll help you plan travel or a safe trip home.
Are your dogs health tested?
Every breeding dog has OFA hips and elbows at two years or older, a heart exam by a board-certified veterinary cardiologist, an eye exam by a veterinary ophthalmologist, and a full DNA panel (PRA1, PRA2, prcd-PRA, ichthyosis 1 and 2, NCL, DM). Good Dog rates our health testing “Excellent,” and we share full OFA records with approved applicants.
